How it works

Three steps, in the app you are already in

No new window to learn and no text to paste into another tool.

  1. 01

    Select

Highlight text wherever you can select text: an email, a note, a page, a message.

  2. 02

    Press

Hit the shortcut you assigned. A small panel opens next to your text and runs the action.

    ⌘⇧R
  3. 03

    Insert

Check the result, change the tone or language with one tap, and insert it back. Your clipboard is put back as it was.

Your text, your model

You choose where your text is processed

Run a model on your Mac with Ollama or MLX, or bring your own API keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral or xAI. Pick a model for each action.

  • Local models

With a local model, your text is processed on your Mac.

  • Your keys, your providers

API keys stay in the macOS Keychain. With a cloud model, your text goes straight to the provider you chose.

  • No ToneMate servers for your text

ToneMate never sends your text to its own servers. The app only contacts ToneMate to check your license.

  • Dictation stays on your Mac

Speech is transcribed locally with Whisper or Parakeet, once the model is downloaded.

  • Try a model before you trust it

“Test on this Mac” runs 12 real checks (language, typos, speed) on a local model first.

FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

Where you can select and copy text. ToneMate captures your selection with the clipboard, runs the action and inserts the result, then puts back what you had copied. We are still checking it app by app, so the list of verified apps will grow.

Local models and dictation work without a connection once the models are downloaded. The license needs a connection to activate and to be checked again at least every 7 days.

A Mac with macOS 14 or later. For local models you need enough memory for the model you pick; ToneMate can test a model on your Mac before you rely on it.

One purchase includes 2 licenses. Each license is active on one Mac at a time, and you can free it up to move it to another Mac.

During the beta, licenses are free and have no fixed end date: request one on the download page. When the first stable version comes out, the 30-day free trial starts: beta licenses stop working 30 days later, and new users get the same trial, one per email and per Mac.

Yes. ToneMate is in free beta: download it from the download page and request a free license key. It is not on sale yet.
