## In short

ToneMate is a native macOS app that runs AI actions on the text you select: rewrite, translate, proofread, summarize, expand or shorten, generate, analyze and reply. It can also dictate with speech-to-text, transcribe audio files and, optionally, suggest fixes as you type in the apps you allow. All the actions share one panel, and you choose a local model or your own API key for each.

## Features

- [Rewrite](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/rewrite-with-ai): Change the tone and wording of selected text, and compare it with the original before you insert it.
- [Reply](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/reply-with-ai): Draft a reply from the conversation you can see, in a tone that fits the app, and review it before inserting.
- [Translate](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/translate-with-ai): Translate selected text into one of 10 languages from a shortcut, with the model you choose.
- [Proofread](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/proofread-with-ai): Fix grammar, spelling, punctuation and style in the text you select, and see every change.
- [Dictation](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/speech-to-text-with-ai): Hold the shortcut, speak and let go: speech is transcribed on your Mac and typed where your cursor is.
- [Summarize](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/summarize-with-ai): Summarize selected text, a spoken note or a document into a short version, with the model you choose.
- [Expand / Shorten](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/expand-shorten-with-ai): Make selected text longer or shorter while keeping its message, and see what changed.
- [Generate](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/generate-with-ai): Write a first draft from a short prompt, typed or spoken, and insert it where you are writing.
- [Analyze](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/analyze-with-ai): Review a text before you send it: suggestions you accept or skip one by one, two scores and a detected tone.
- [Inline assistant](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/inline-writing-assistant): Optional suggestions as you type: underlines and a bubble with the fix, only in the apps you allow.
- [Transcribe audio](https://www.tonemateai.com/en/transcribe-audio-file-with-ai): Drop an audio file and get the text, transcribed on your Mac.

## Frequently asked questions

### What can ToneMate do?

It rewrites, translates into 10 languages, proofreads, summarizes, expands or shortens, generates, analyzes and replies to text you select on your Mac. It also dictates, transcribes audio files and offers optional inline suggestions in the apps you allow.

### Do I need an account or a subscription?

ToneMate is in free beta: you can download it and request a free license key with no fixed end date, and there is no subscription. It is not on sale yet. The plan for the full version is a one-time purchase that includes 2 licenses; when the first stable version comes out, a 30-day free trial starts.

### Is my text sent to a server?

ToneMate never sends your text to its own servers. With a local model your text is processed on your Mac; with a cloud model it goes straight to the provider whose API key you added. The app only contacts ToneMate to check your license.

### In which apps does it work?

Wherever you can select, copy and paste text. ToneMate captures your selection with the clipboard, runs the action and inserts the result, then restores what you had copied. We are still checking it app by app, so we do not publish a list of supported apps yet.
