# ToneMate

> ToneMate is a native macOS app that runs AI actions on the text you select, from a global keyboard shortcut: rewrite, translate, proofread, summarize, reply and dictate. Use a local model on your Mac or your own API keys.

Status: ToneMate is in free beta: anyone can download it and request a free license key. One-time purchase that includes 2 licenses, no subscription. Beta licenses are free and have no fixed end date. When the first stable version comes out, they stop working 30 days later: that is the free trial, one per email and per Mac.
Requirements: macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
Models: Local models through Ollama or MLX, or your own API key for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral or xAI.
Privacy: ToneMate never sends your text to its own servers. With a local model your text is processed on your Mac; with a cloud model it goes straight to the provider whose API key you added. The app only contacts ToneMate to check your license.
Language: The website is in English and Spanish; the app itself is in English for now.
